Philosophy

March 7th, 2010

Does everything have to be so black and white that someone can legitimately say “You’re either with us or you’re against us” and mean it? Racist_sheep

You’re either an egalitarian or a racist; an activist or sexist; an animal-killer or a member of PETA; religious or atheist. Far too often there is little understanding of the halfway.

I’m concerned about this because of my current religious dilemma. It would seem that I have supposedly pledged allegiance to two sides of a battlefront.

People are not consistent

December 11th, 2009

People are not consistent. Characters in stories are consistent, but only because if a character was as inconsistent as a real person, the audience would Bob Kelso took a number of seasons to become complicatedcomplain that the character was not well developed.

The annoyance to come from this is that a lot of our influence, our social information on how we should act, comes from media. And by media I don’t just mean movies and TV, I mean books, music, comics, YouTube and every way in which a story can be told.

Because of this, we develop a persona. We ‘create’ our own character,  and then we strive to portray this character in our day-to-day lives.

I have recently had the challenge (and the pleasure) of getting to know new people, and the question that has risen numerous times is “Is this person getting to know the real me?”

Begs, Allow I 2 Ranting Bout Grammar

August 8th, 2008

Translation: Please, allow me to rant about grammar.

hmmmm-i-disagrees-with-your-theories (143x200) Not a rant as such, but a hopeful advisory notice for those who do not know how to speak (or write) the beautiful English language.

My reasons for disliking the misuse of the language are many:

Firstly, English is a language. Language is a form of communication. If you are not speaking the language correctly, then the intended receiver of your message is instead receiving utter nonsense and a headache.

Unless, in the case of special discourses (lolcat, txtspk) the receiver is also fluent in this language. Then you may “Can I has” all you like, all day long.

The problem comes when someone is attempting to communicate a complicated message to someone outside of the discourse of their language. For example:

I can has life? I r livin? I r thinkin, therfor I is! It simpel!

Death of the Author (And May He Stay That Way)

August 8th, 2008

Picture 007 (200x150) I am currently going through my previous blog posts, so as to assign some tags to them. Prior to this, most of them were listed under the phenomenally useful “Uncategorized” category, or the deceivingly non-descriptive “General Posts” category.

General Posts. How can a post be a General Post? This thought amused me for a moment or two before I moved on to the next, far more interesting one.

If a post is about nothing, then it cannot be a post, can it?

General Posts, for me, was originally just a category to click at the last minute after having written a post and strongly disliking the concept of having a plethora of “Uncategorized” posts.

(The quotation marks are there because I am using the American spelling. I do not wish to confuse those who see the word “colour” in the same page as “Uncategorized.”)

In a few posts, I found some sentences which I would have liked to have written better. Some were linguistically iffy, some were grammatically stupid.

After a small amount of thought (that is, after all, the amount I am capable of without tangenting… er, where was I? Oh yes.) I decided that I would not, in fact, change them to the newer, grammatically superior wordings.

I am writing this using Windows Live Writer

August 7th, 2008

This is an age of EXPERIMENTATION!

No, you deviant perverts, not sexual experimentation, you can keep that inside your own bedrooms (or someone else’s. You can keep your gimps in the closet when I come over).

Of course, this program may be an utter flop, in which case, it would be easier to simply log in on the side of the blog, but this software is worth a try.

jorjesMarvel, as I attempt to insert an image. Meet “Jorjes de la Yungel” (pronounced Hor-hey).

He is my character in a new forum-based RPG that I am trying out for Botsunagi.com He’s a barbarian.

So I’ve also added some new tags. This one, as you will note, has the “BotsuNagi” tag, due to that short stint relating to Botsunagi.com

Botsunagi Coming Along

August 5th, 2008

Botsunagi is growing, its three regular posters are regularly posting, as well as the occasional post from maybe three more irregular posters.

Facedesk is doing nothing. Who knows what I’ll do with that.

Possible future projects:

-Podcast
-Forums proper
-Video Series
-Ancient Journeys Album

We shall see how these come about

Blog Post

July 15th, 2008

Facedesk.org now has (temporary) forums, and I’m not so sure BotsuNagi will turn into what I thought it would.

Only time will tell.

Or Mentok the Mind-taker.

New websites ahoy!

July 11th, 2008

I have just made the opening decisions in two new websites.

Considering the traffic of this blog is approximately [Google Search Engine + 1], it’s quite safe for me to post the new ideas here without any outward effects.

However, this blog post may serve to illustrate for various friends what my hopes and dreams and aspirations are for these two paragons of pure silvereity.

First off, Botsu Nagi. (www.botsunagi.com)

BotsuNagi will be a forum for a small gaming community, consisting mainly of a few friends of mine, and their friends, and their friends. It may be the meeting grounds for a few guilds, clans, etc.

Secondly, Facedesk.org (www.facedesk.org)

Facedesk.org is a project I’ve had in mind with a few friends (PlacidBox and Cumbo) for a while, although the actual content of said project has been uncertain, we have been sure that we want to make a website called facedesk.org

You (and I) will have to wait to find out what it is.

Anyway, stay tuned.

The Maddened One

Holidays, I think…

June 21st, 2008

First off, Dad has shown me this FaceBook plugin which allows me to associate my blog with my profile. So if you’ve followed the link, yeah, it’s mine.

It’s the university holidays now, although it doesn’t feel like it yet because I am in the middle of a work infested weekend. I am looking forward to Monday, and finally having most of the day off. Unfortunately I have been rostered on on Tuesday at one job, and I have no idea what the other one will do this week.

Just about to go rent out CoD 4 for the 360 so I can play it over a LAN at an old friend’s place in Springbrook. (You know who you are, you rad human being you)

I’ve been listening to the Penny Arcade Podcast a lot lately, catching up on the back catalog of them, as well as the podcast of them playing Dungeons and Dragons fourth edition. It’s quite enlightening. I’ll post links to them later on when I have nothing else to do.

Until then, adios.

I be off.

Oh, and in retrospect, the Penny Arcade game on Steam thing makes sense. It was like 5 in the morning after a sleepless LAN-filled night when I wrote that last post. I bought it, and it is filled with PA goodness.

Rock on, Gabe and Tycho, rock on.

“Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-slick Precipice of Darkness - Episode One” on Steam?

June 12th, 2008

I too am bewildered and confused by this news. I was under the impression that this game was being released online only through Greenhouse, but I just read and confirmed that it has been released on Steam.

The Internet says nothing of this. The Penny Arcade website lacks details of this news. Kotaku seems not to have picked it up. I know not what goes on.

All I know is that I am glad that I waited for the game to come to Steam before I purchased it (I haven’t yet - until I know the full details I don’t intend to) as it would be convenient on Steam.

I must admit, it makes a little sense, with Penny Arcade comics appearing on Steam regularly, but I never got the impression that the game would be released this way, and I would be lying to say I was not afraid.

I FEAR!

But anyway, if anyone is reading this, please leave comments, i.e What is this about? What happened to Greenhouse? Will PA:OtRSPoD(E1) stay on Steam?

Let me know.

MaddenedMan out.
